Exploring Yvelines in Northern France is with no doubt a memorable experience. It is one of the departments of Île-de-France Region. Yvelines is a magnificent area, attracting dozens of visitors each year with its fantastic cultural attractions including museums, palaces and chateaus. The Palace of Versailles

As one of the world’s most beautiful and largest palaces, the Palace of Versailles is one of France’s major visitor attractions. The historic palace was designed and enlarged under the order of King Louis XIV. Not only the exterior of the palace, but its interior is also very attractive. There are numerous breathtaking apartments and halls within the palace. The palace’s gardens are also astonishing, including beautiful plantations, statues, fountains and others. Château de Dampierre

Built between 1675 and 1683, the breathtaking Château de Dampierre is one of the numerous chateaus of the Yvelines department. Wearing the characteristics of French Baroque style, the castle is an astonishing visitor attraction. The grandiose castle has numerous apartments and halls. It can be visited daily from 11:00 to 18:30 (between the 1st of April and 30th of September). (February 2013)

Château de Rambouillet

Situated in the town with the same name, the Château de Rambouillet has a breathtaking setting, within magnificent woodlands. The castle is very popular among those who prefer walking and visiting architectural jewels. Guided tours are available every day except Tuesdays with different programme: from the 1st of April until the 30th of September: at 10:00, 11:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00 and 17:00, between the 1st of October and the 31st of March: at 10:00, 11:00, 14:00, 15:00 and 16:00. Château de Maisons

Also known as Château de Maisons-Laffitte, this castle is a wonderful architectural jewel of the Yvelines department. Wearing the characteristics of French Baroque architectural style, the castle and its gardens are extremely popular among visitors. Designed between 1630 and 1651, it includes fantastic and breathtaking apartments.

Château of Thoiry

Another attractive and breathtaking chateau of the area is the Château of Thoiry. On the grounds of the castle there is also a walk-through zoo and a botanical garden, being very popular among visitors. As you can see, Yvelines is a very attractive department of Northern France. There are dozens of visitor attractions here which make it a must-visit area.
