France is abundant in historic monuments, including churches, cathedrals, castles, basilicas, palaces, historic buildings and other sights. Almost all of them are extremely popular among tourists and drag innumerable visitors each year. These architectural jewels represent some of the most photographed sights of the country. The Sacré-Coeur Basilica

Another extremely famous religious monument of France is the Basilica of the Sacred Heart (Sacré-Coeur Basilica) of Paris. It can be found on the Montmartre hill of the city and it is a major landmark. It can be visited daily from 06:00 to 22:30. (August 2013) From the basilica visitors have an excellent view over the fantastic city.

The Arc de Triomphe

One of the major landmarks of Paris, the famous Arc de Triomphe is an important historic monument of France. It can be found in the centre of the well-known Place Charles de Gaulle and it is one of the most photographed monuments of the country. Everyone knows how the famous arch looks like. The monument honors all those who died in the French Revolutionary.

The Versailles Palace

With no doubt one of the most beautiful palaces of the world is the famous Versailles Palace. The former royal residence of Louis XIV can be found in the suburb of Paris – Versailles. It is a very popular and attractive sight for tourists. The breathtaking palace and its gardens are inscribed on the list of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. You shouldn’t miss them either. 

Mont Saint-Michel

The famous abbey on the island of Mont Saint-Michel is with no doubt one of the most unique landmarks of France. This monument is very attractive for tourists. The wonderful World Heritage Site attracts about 3 million of visitors yearly.
