St Gatien Cathedral

One of the most spectacular landmarks of Tours, St Gatien Cathedral is a major visitor attraction of the city. Built between 1170 and 1547, it is a beautiful Roman Catholic cathedral which was designated as a historic monument of France in 1862. The religious building wears the characteristics of several architectural styles: Gothic, Renaissance and Romanesque. There are numerous highlights inside the cathedral, including the organ, the altar, wonderful stained glass windows and the tomb of the children of Anne of Brittany and Charles VIII.

The Museum of Fine Arts of Tours

Situated near the cathedral of Tours, the fascinating Museum of Fine Arts is a major visitor attraction of the city. It was established in 1795 and includes a large and spectacular collection of paintings. There are 1.000 beautiful works exhibited, but the museum owns about 12.000 works. Among the works visitors can find fantastic paintings by Monet, Rubens, Delacroix, Rembrandt and other famous artists. The fantastic museum is a historic monument of France. It can be visited every day, except on Tuesdays, from 9:00 to 12:45 and from 14:00 to 18:00. (January 2013)

Hôtel Goüin

Another fantastic landmark of Tours is the beautiful building of the Hôtel Goüin. It is actually a hôtel particulier of France. Built in the 15th century, the fantastic building wears the characteristics of early Renaissance architectural style. The façade of the building is considered a masterpiece of Italian Renaissance style. The beautiful mansion houses today the city’s museum of the Archaeological Society.

Tours Botanical Garden

The fantastic botanical garden of Tours can be found on the Boulevard Tonnellé. There are about 2.000 plants in the botanical garden, being organized in numerous greenhouses, an orangery, medicinal plants, exotic plants and so on. There is also a small space dedicated for animals. The botanical garden can be visited daily and there is no admission fee. (January 2013)
